Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical or Corrosion Engineering
- Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGGA in the province of Alberta
Languages Required:
English written and oral.
Minimum Requirement:
- Knowledge of applicable ASME, API, ASTM, NACE and other Standards and Codes
- Exposure to an operating plant environment
- Excellent communication skills
- Advanced computer literacy (MS applications)
- SAP, AutoCAD, Interplant, literacy will be considered an asset
Job Scope:
Reporting to the Upgrading Materials Reliability Engineering Manager the Senior Metallurgical Specialist will provide professional engineering services to the Upgrading Reliability Engineering Department.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Engages/participates in Turn Arounds and Outages providing materials engineering support throughout the whole process
- Reviews "Corrosion Survey" and QA/QC Materials engineering related inspection data for anticipated effects on pressure equipment safety and reliability
- Reviews and approves equipment weld and heat treatment procedures qualified by the Company and those submitted by contractors
- Qualifies welding procedures to be used in the fabrication and/or repair of pressure equipment
- Provides technical engineering support to the responsible engineer preparing scopes of work related to new construction, repair and alteration of pressure equipment
- Analyzes Integrity Operating Window (IOW) excursions or design parameter excursions for anticipated effect on pressure equipment safety and reliability
- Makes recommendations to the integrity assessment responsible engineer regarding findings
- Assists responsible engineers in determining fitness for service of pressure equipment
- Conducts investigations into pressure equipment incidents and reports of degradation through failure analysis and research. Provides recommendations to ensure an accurate integrity assessment and appropriate corrective action where necessary
Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years experience in an Oil & Gas Industry
- Experienced with metallurgical failure analysis, materials selection & testing, welding, corrosion monitoring and pressure vessel/piping repair methods
- Experience with Quality Assurance and Reliability Engineering tools such as risk based inspection, root cause failure analysis, fitness for service and reliability centered maintenance would be an asset
