Senior Reservoir Engineer, Carbonates

Job Scope:

 

The incumbent will report to the Senior Manager, Reservoir Engineering, and be accountable for all reservoir engineering analyses, workflow associated with supporting the development of the Company’s Carbonate Assets.

This position will work as part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of Reservoir, Geology, and Development, and will support the Manager Carbonate Resources to ensure that all reservoir engineering inputs are captured in the development planning, engineering design and operations for the asset.

The Company has a significant asset base in the bitumen bearing carbonate regions of Alberta.  This position will focus on reservoir characterization, to develop performance predictions and development plans to further the commerciality of this significant resource.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with Geology, conduct detailed reservoir characterization analyses for input to reservoir simulation models of the carbonate assets;
  • Development of best practices to build numerical simulation models which appropriate capture the reservoir characteristics;
  • Development of inputs to short and long term development plans for the carbonates, and provide recommendations in regard to portfolio optimization and commercial development opportunities;
  • Design and coordinate laboratory work/testing for routine and special core analysis, including project and cost management;
  • Coordination of inputs into the reserves assessment process, according to the COGEH standards, and ensure reservoir modeling is undertaken with high integrity and conformance to best practices to maximize value to the company;
  • Identify and coordinate relevant Reservoir Engineering technical data gathering and analysis;
  • Stewardship of reservoir engineering inputs to commercial applications and development strategy,  as well as planning and execution of projects;
  • Design and coordinate laboratory work/testing for routine and special core analysis, including project and cost management;
  • Evaluate potential development areas starting with reservoir characterization and performance predictions and provide input on development strategies and economic modeling;
  • Track technology development in the oil sands industry;
  • Manage the Reservoir Engineering projects contributing to assessment of project risk and uncertainty within capital programs;
  • Provide support to other reservoir engineering projects as needed, as well as mentoring and leadership to team members;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years related industry experience directly involved with reservoir engineering aspects of project development.
  • Experience with reservoir modeling of carbonates.
  • Experience in thermal recovery of bitumen is an asset.
